Did anyone get a chance to see it? It's directed by a Vietnamese guy I think. I think it screened sometime in Minnesota earlier and a bunch of other film festivals. Winner of 2006 Golden Kite Awards (The national film awards in Vietnam) for Best Film, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Cinematography so it's gotta be good quality.

Quote:
Set in a breath-taking primitive landscape in the mountainous provinces of Vietnam, the film tells the story of a Hmong tribe girl named Pao. She was raised by her stepmother, for her real mother left her when she was little. One day, her stepmother dies in an accident, and she begins to track down her birth mother. But her journey turns out to disclose an unsealed sentimental drama of the family in the past. [/b]

I hear it's in Hmong (don't know which dialect) with English subtitles.

Actually, the movie is in Vietnamese with English subtitles. And if I'm not mistaken, the movie was filmed in Sa Phin and the surrounding areas. One of the houses used in the filming of the movie is the stonehouse of Vuong Chinh Duc, a Hmong man who was imperialized as "Northern King" by Emperor Khai Dinh Nguyen the 13th, and put in charge of Vietnam's borderlands with China in the early 1900's. You can view a trailer of the movie here:

Yep, I watched it a couple of days ago. We had FEST last week here - it's Belgrade international film festival... and I go there every year... and they showed it and I thought it could be interesting, especially since it's about Hmong girl and I heard about Hmongs, but I never had a chance to learn more about them and their culture. And even the director and the main actress came to Belgrade too and they greeted us before the movie started. It's an excellent movie *nods*.
