VietNamNet Bridge ? The American Importers Association (AIA) predicts Vietnam shipments to the US this year will amount to US$9bil, up 36% from last year.

Phillip W. Byrd, director of AIA, said in a statement released on Wednesday that the rise in the country's exports to the US this year was due to a high consumer confidence rate in the US and to increased marketing by Vietnamese companies.

He said, "Although all sectors show signs of increasing, Vietnam exporters in furniture, leather products, apparel and accessories, textiles and fabrics and food sectors will find the greatest potential to see their exports to the US grow in 2006 and into 2007."

Byrd told a recent meeting of US importers interested in doing business with Asia that the 79% positive opinion was due to new trade agreements and to the increased awareness of US importers to the products available from Vietnam.

On the occasion of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) economic leaders' meeting in Hanoi on November 18-19, Byrd will have a meeting on how to find and successfully sell to US importers with local companies on November 13 in HCMC. The meeting is being organized by VietAsia Co., Ltd.

A recent survey of 1,000 US importers showed that 79% of them had a position opinion of Vietnamese products and would be willing to buy Vietnamese goods, said AIA.

In the first eight months of 2006 Vietnam earned US$5.5bil from exports to the US, an increase of 32% from 2005. Last year, Vietnam shipped US$6.6bil worth of goods to the US market, up 25% from 2004.[/b]

With this kinda of accelerated growth: 25% last year, 36% this year, I think vietnam's trade with the US will soon outgrow our trade with China.

That's good to know... soon Vietnam won't be a third world country anymore. [please correct me if I'm wrong there.]
