That's not how I view life. The meaning of my life is to be happy, or make other happy. There's nothing you must do in life, because you never HAVE to do anything. You just want to. You don't have to eat. You just want to, because you want to live and you don't like hunger pain. You don't have to breathe, but you do because you WANT to live. If you never have to do anything, why do anything? Well, that's why the meaning of life is to be happy. Because if there's no requirements, then you are free. Free to do anything. Happiness is the best feeling we can feel. Some people may say love is, but love is just a subset of happiness. You love someone. You like to be around them, because it makes you feel happy. That could also relate to the subject "I" in first person, but that's a discussion for another time.
You don't even have to make yourself happy. You can just make others happy. Why would you do that? Well, if you don't have a religion, you can just think of it as doing it out of the goodness of your heart. There might be people who say "no. Why help others, when I can help me?" If you think like that, then instead of making others happy, make yourself happy.
From when you're born to when you're 5, that was your childhood. That was when "I" was first person. Everything revolved around your happiness. You cry because you want to release your unhappiness, so after that you become happy. It was also the time where you're taught your morals. Morals makes you who you are, and determines your happiness in your later years. If your morals are against the law, then your joy would be forbidden. However, if your morals are good, then you'll be happy later on with the society.
That 8 years in elementry, 4 years in high school, and 4+ years in University prepares you for the future. Yet, it not only does that, but create bonds between people. In this world, we're all dependent on something else. You're dependent on factories making your clothes, farmers giving you your raw food, and company to provide you with heat and water and stuff. Farmers depend on the society to not destroy the weather so he/she can have good crops, and depend on technological research to give them better crops. You, a single person in society, has to rely on other people to help you in society. Those people are what you can rely on. You might not rely on them now, but you will when you grow up. Those years in school also allows you to experience all different subjects, so you can choose a career you like, so you can ENJOY working when you grow up. See, it's the world ENJOY, which is really just saying being happy.
When you grow up, you're told to work hard to make lots of money. What does money really do? Nothing. Money itself is a piece of paper, or coins. What it COULD do is buy things, things that you like, things that could make you happy. That's why there are people who work and work, but are never happy. Yet, there are people who don't work that hard but are happy, because they're content. That's why content people don't need anything, because they're happy with that they got. Once you're happy, you don't need to work that hard, because the true meaning of life is to be happy. Some people get something, but keep working hard, planning for the future. They may say they're happy. That's possible, because some people enjoy working. Some don't. Some people are happy because they know their future is good, a time when they can relax and enjoy the joys of life. By the time you die, if you look back upon your life and can smile, then you have truly lived the meaning of life.
Sorry, but I'm multitasking so I can only give a brief statement of what I see. My 0.2 cents
